About Us
Who we are
At Friendship Pasadena, everything we do centers on one thing: Jesus Christ. We’re a family of people who’ve found hope in Him—and we want as many others as possible to experience that same freedom.
Where we come from
Founded in 1893, Friendship Pasadena is the first African American Baptist church in the city and one of Pasadena’s oldest congregations. Over the years, we’ve played a vital role in the city’s religious and civic life.
In 1996, under the leadership of Rev. Lucious W. Smith, the church began a seaon of renewal—restoring our building and expanding ministries to meet the needs of a changing community.
Located in the heart of Old Town Pasadena, Friendship is a cultural and historical landmark, recognized by the ate of California and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Where We’re Going
We’re building a community centered on hope—hope for the future, hope for progress, and hope found in Christ. As we grow, inclusion, belonging, and love remain at the core of who we are.
What This Means for You
You’re always welcome at Friendship Pasadena. No matter where you are on your faith journey, there’s a place for you here.
